Starting out with China Central People’s Radio Station, Liu’s first overseas experience came in Singapore in the late eighties, before heading to Hong Kong in 1990, where he traded petroleum and developed real estate. With deep-rooted Mainland China relationships, Liu entered the television market in 1996, founding Phoenix TV in a joint venture where Rupert Murdoch’s Star TV took 45% and becoming a key shareholder in Asia TV. |
