| personal info: | Titan Oil has ridden on the back of a surge in demand for oil products in China and the opening up of the multi-billion-dollar state-dominated retail market. With sales last year in the listed company of US$140 million and paying taxes of US$12 million, Titan has 560 employees. The Singapore parent had sales last year of US$600 million and this autumn invested US$80 million into a Fujian ship repair business. Having missed out on an education, Cai in 1982 started trading oil, buying cheap oil from the North of China and selling it to the booming South. In 2002, Titan changed tack, building oil and petrochemicals storage facilities in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Quanzhou, and building a fleet of four large oil carriers for transporting oil from the Middle East and twenty smaller carriers for the Asia-Pacific region. |
