| personal info: | Although this year’s austerity program may have impacted the speed of development of its aluminum investments in Inner Mongolia, East Hope continues to flourish from the cashflows generated by its core feed business. With 68 feed factories around the country and two in Vietnam, East Hope last year had sales of US$420 million (2002: US$360 million) with 10,000 employees. Other key investments include a lysine plant (an animal fed ingredient), finance, dairy products and a small ski resort in the North of China. Liu’s rise, together with his brother, Liu Yonghao (number 9), from humble origins is seen by many to epitomize the development of China’s economy over the last twenty years. |
