| personal info: | In an effort to guarantee the supply of iron ore for its steel mill, Shagang this spring acquired a 10% stake in an Australian mine and has become the first of the major steel producers to export steel billets. With sales last year of US$2.5 billion (2002: US$1.75 billion) and paying taxes of more than US$60 million, Shagang has 9,500 employees. Taking charge of Shagang in 1984, Shen in 2001 led a management buy-out. Previously vice-secretary to his local CCP committee, Shen was a delegate to the 16th Party Congress and is a delegate to the National People’s Congress for a second term. |
