10 January 2008, Shanghai Pudong Shangri-La. Hurun Report celebrated the 2008 Hurun Best of the Best Awards Ceremony with 600 guests, led by fifty individuals from the China Rich List and over one hundred luxury brand senior decision-makers. Giovanni d’Amore, who had flown over from Portugal especially for the occasion, regaled guests with a virtuoso operatic perforrmance, Shanghai-based Tian Guo’an sang some of his hallmark jazz pieces and Chinese legend Chen Gang played his own compositions on the piano. Simon Ma, a rising star in the design world, arranged an edgy show of his latest designer chairs. Hurun Report raised RMB 238,000 from a short charity auction, with 100% of the proceeds going to a China Kind Fund programme aimed at helping primary school children in Tibet. Celebrated TV hostess Yuan Ming was the MC for the third year running, this time in conjunction with Simon Ma.
