The ‘Best of the Best 2009’ awards for preferred brands of China’s richest consumers were honoured last night by Hurun Report, China’s leading luxury business magazine renowned for its annual ‘China Rich List’ of tycoons and entrepreneurs.

The longest-running consumer awards of their kind were announced at a glittering ceremony at the Pudong Shangri-La in Shanghai last night.

The top honour for ‘Best Overall Luxury Brand’ was awarded to Louis Vuitton with further awards being given in jewellery, watches, fashion and phones to bankers, cars, business jets, yachts, private clubs, golf courses, cognacs, cigars, pens, skincare, furniture, hotels, travel destinations, airlines, magazines and even connoisseur teas.

Other major award winners included Cartier for ‘Best Jewelry’ and Patek Philippe for ‘Best Luxury Watch’.

Despite the credit crunch, the Rolls-Royce Phantom continued to set the standard for super luxury cars and China Merchants Bank for Best Onshore Personal Bank.

‘Best Luxury Drinks Brand’ was Royal Salute and ‘Best Auction House’ was Christie’s. Chang'An Club was voted ‘Best Private Club in China’.

In its fifth anniversary year, the ‘Best of the Best 2009’ awards were polled from a survey of a five hundred Chinese consumers with assets of at least RMB 10 million or annual income of over RMB 1 million.

“It is unquestionably the largest and most authorative survey of China’s affluent today,” said Hurun Report founder and publisher, Rupert Hoogewerf.

The survey was carried out between April and November 2008, with results compiled by leading market researchers Sinomonitor International.

The ‘Best of the Best 2009’ award ceremony was held in conjunction with LuxuryMart09, China’s premier B2B matchmaking event for luxury brands targeting China’s fast-growing affluent population.

The ceremony was attended by luxury brand decision-makers and high net worth individuals from China’s business world, including over 100 worth over US$10 million – 30 per cent from outside Shanghai.

Hurun Report is China’s leading luxury publishing and events group, globally renowned as the foremost authority on China’s high net worth individuals. The group was established in Shanghai in 1999 by Rupert Hoogewerf.

Its flagship product is the China Rich List™ of mainland tycoons and entrepreneurs, considered the Who’s Who of Chinese business, as well as the Hurun Philanthropy List and Hurun Contemporary Art List.
