Award ceremony held in conjunction with LuxuryMart 09, returns for 5th year to
show China’s elite consumer preferences
The ‘Best of the Best 2009’ awards for
preferred brands of China’s richest consumers were honoured last night by Hurun
Report, China’s leading luxury business magazine renowned for its annual ‘China
Rich List’ of tycoons and entrepreneurs.
The longest-running consumer awards of their kind were announced at a glittering
ceremony at the Pudong Shangri-La in Shanghai last night.
The top honour for ‘Best Overall Luxury Brand’ was awarded to Louis Vuitton with
further awards being given in jewellery, watches, fashion and phones to bankers,
cars, business jets, yachts, private clubs, golf courses, cognacs, cigars, pens,
skincare, furniture, hotels, travel destinations, airlines, magazines and even
connoisseur teas.
Other major award winners included Cartier for ‘Best Jewelry’ and Patek Philippe
for ‘Best Luxury Watch’.
Despite the credit crunch, the Rolls-Royce Phantom continued to set the standard
for super luxury cars and China Merchants Bank for Best Onshore Personal Bank.
‘Best Luxury Drinks Brand’ was Royal Salute and ‘Best Auction House’ was
Christie’s. Chang'An Club was voted ‘Best Private Club in China’.
In its fifth anniversary year, the ‘Best of the Best 2009’ awards were polled
from a survey of a five hundred Chinese consumers with assets of at least RMB 10
million or annual income of over RMB 1 million.
“It is unquestionably the largest and most authorative survey of China’s
affluent today,” said Hurun Report founder and publisher, Rupert Hoogewerf.
The survey was carried out between April and November 2008, with results
compiled by leading market researchers Sinomonitor International.
The ‘Best of the Best 2009’ award ceremony was held in conjunction with
LuxuryMart09, China’s premier B2B matchmaking event for luxury brands targeting
China’s fast-growing affluent population.
The ceremony was attended by luxury brand decision-makers and high net worth
individuals from China’s business world, including over 100 worth over US$10
million – 30 per cent from outside Shanghai.
