Du Sha (chairman and CEO of The Home World Group) : I was in Athens watching the Olympic Games live. The most exciting competitor for me was Liu Xiang. His victory turned on its head the commonly held belief that the Asian is unable to compete with the Afro-Caribbean on the track. This was progress for mankind rather than just glory for China . I am particularly anti narrow nationalist sentiments oft seen in the Olympic Games. The spirit of the Olympics should be mutual understanding, friendship, unity, and fair competition. The aim of physical competition is to pursue higher, faster, and stronger goals. We should pay attention to all human beings. China lost all the events I watched in the field, including the men's gymnastics and swimming. Although I hoped China would win, I cheered for other countries as well. Everyone was a winner.
Li Yanhong (President of Baidu) : I was most impressed by the Badminton Mixed Doubles final. It was a hard-fought match. But Zhang Jun and Gao Ling kept smiling and encouraging each other. I don't like to watch events during which the athletes pull long faces. I like to watch good sportsmanship. Of course, it's great if they win too at the end! Good manners without Olympic skills are not enough.
Guo Guangchang (chairman of Fuxing Group) : Liu Xiang gave me the most excitement because he made a breakthrough. It was the first time for an Asian to stand on the podium and accept a Gold Medal in track and field.
Timothy Chen Tianqiao (chairman of Shanda Networking) : I stayed up all night watching the Women's Tennis Doubles finals, which had a Chinese fairy tale ending. The pair won very beautifully, not relying on luck!
William Ding Lei (CEO of NetEase) : The most exciting match for me was the Men's Basketball between China and Serbia & Montenegro for a place in the quarterfinals. The situation appeared hopeless, yet China struck back and unexpectedly defeated the two-time defending world champions 67-66. Yao Ming played exceptionally well. He is a source of pride for all Chinese. So is Liu Xiang, whose victory on the track was amazing. Although I did not watch the Women's Volleyball final, the news of the Chinese victory drove me wild. It felt like the “Return of The King.” My generation has a special feeling for Women's Volleyball in China , since it has taken twenty years for them to return to the top of the sport.
