Hurun Education Top International Schools in China 2018
Hurun Education, the education platform of Hurun Report Inc., today released the Hurun Education Top International Schools in China 2018, a ranking of the Top 100 international schools in China.
Shanghai High School International Division tops the Hurun Education schools list, followed by Dulwich College Beijing, YK Pao School, ISB and Shanghai World Foreign Language Academy
Two-thirds of the Hurun Education Top 100 from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen
20 schools made the Hurun Education Top 100 for the first time, led by 7 from Beijing
Dulwich College led with 5 schools in the Hurun Education Top 100
The proportion of schools that admit Chinese passport holders rose from 70% to 80%
Leading authority on international education in China Hurun Education released the Hurun Education Top International Schools in China 2018
l Beijing and Shanghai accounted for half of the Hurun Education Top 100. Beijing was up 5 on last year, with 26 schools, followed by Shanghai with 23, down 3, followed by Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Suzhou. “Beijing replaced Shanghai as the city with the most international schools on the list,” said Rupert Hoogewerf, chairman and chief researcher of Hurun Education.
l Shanghai Pinghe Bilingual School, SDSZ International Department, The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China Joint Program and Guangdong Country Garden School made the Top Ten for the first time, nudging out Shanghai American School (12 this year), Western Academy of Beijing (12) and Wellington College International Shanghai (14).
l 8 of the Top 10 schools, up 4 on last year, are able to admit Chinese passport holders. 78%, up from 74% last year, can admit Chinese passport holders.
l 54% are private international schools, up from 47% last year, followed by 26% international division of Chinese public schools.
l Annual tuition fees range from CNY 100,000 to 150,000 for international departments of Chinese public schools to CNY 250,000 to 300,000 for international schools open to non-Chinese passport holders only.
(5 March 2019, Shanghai) Hurun Education, the education platform of Hurun Report Inc., today released the Hurun Education Top International Schools in China 2018, a ranking of the Top 100 international schools in China. This is the second year of the ranking.
New this year, Hurun Education released the International Schools in China with the Best Extracurricular Programs 2018 Top 10 and the International Schools in Hong Kong and Macao 2018 Top 10.
The Hurun Education Top International Schools in China is based on a peer to peer review. Between July and December 2018, Hurun Education surveyed 330 experts from international education in China, up three-fold from last year. Hurun Education asked them, in an unprompted question, to recommend up to five schools from each of ‘Greater Shanghai’ (Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang), ‘Greater Beijing’ (Beijing and Tianjin), Guangdong and ‘Rest of China’ that provides – in their opinion – a good all-round education. Hurun Education received 1372 votes in total, an average of 4.2 votes from each respondent. Half were school principals and senior teachers with the other half investors, overseas study agents, training institutions and government education departments. 28% were from ‘Greater Shanghai’, 30% ‘Greater Beijing’, 27% Guangdong and 15% ‘Rest of China’. 282 schools received votes, almost double last year. 19%, down from 24% last year, of respondents were non-Chinese. Schools were ranked on an index of 1 to 100, the school with the most votes receiving the maximum index of 100. The rankings refer to international schools in Mainland China only.
The Hurun Education Top 100 came from 24 cities across Mainland China.
Rupert Hoogewerf, Hurun Report Group and Hurun Education Chairman and Chief Researcher, said, “This ranking is primarily targeted at parents with children in China, helping them to find the most suitable school for their child, teachers already at or looking to work at international schools in China and admission officers of universities looking to recruit students from China.”
