Intro

The Committee of 100 annual conference is always an important convening, bringing together people who not only care about good relations between the US and China but also are in positions of power able to bring about real results. This year in Washington, D.C., however, it is an even more crucial convening. The election results of 2016 in America and the transitions to occur in China mean that there is uncertainty and anxiety. The peoples of both nations realize the interaction with the other, whether political or economic, military or cultural, are vital to their own well-being.

The conference will open with presentation of the unique C100 survey of public attitudes. Conducted regularly for more than a decade, it is the only study that presents actual facts from both sides of the Pacific Ocean. Using scientific methods of the highest standards, it reveals attitudes of Americans toward China as well as Chinese toward America. This data is the basis for serious analysis. A wealth of information will be offered that should give us hope about a future that is peaceful and prosperous.

The Saturday activities include mentoring, a discussion of bridge building among generations of Chinese Americans, a session on public service and civic engagement, and the release of a study of racial profiling of Asian American researchers and scientists wrongly accused in high-profile criminal prosecutions.
